Nightlase Treatment – What it is and What it Solves

Do you snore? If you are one of the millions of people who answer that question with a “yes,” then you may be also experiencing a condition called Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Essentially, this disorder is the result of the soft tissue in the back of the throat relaxing and blocking your airway.  Afterwards, your oxygen levels drop, your brain forces your body to adjust, and you may gasp or choke. If left untreated, research suggests that sleep apnea may reduce a person’s lifespan by 20-50%!

The good news is, TMJ and Sleep Therapy Centre of New England offers a solution called NIGHTLASE®.

The NIGHTLASE® Laser Snoring Treatment is a non-surgical treatment that may decrease the symptoms of sleep apnea in a few short treatments (and many patients experience results after the first treatment). This state of the art treatment utilizes a Fotona laser to treat your snoring, it is non-surgical, and involves no appliances. We can perform NIGHTLASE treatments right in our Bolton office.

    How Does NIGHTLASE work?

Laser energy is used to heat the tissues of the airway causing a tightening effect which helps to keep your airway open. It is performed with approximately three short treatments spaced over two months. Each treatment lasts 15 minutes and requires no anesthesia. The procedure is comfortable and you can resume your daily routine immediately afterwards. Results are often seen after the first session.

Am I a candidate for NIGHTLASE?

Generally speaking, if you snore or have mild-to-moderate sleep apnea, NIGHTLASE can help you. And if you are in New England, TMJ and Sleep Therapy Centre of New England is your best choice for NIGHTLASE treatment.

Though snoring seems like it’s nothing more than an irritating sound, it may be the first noticeable symptom of a more serious problem like sleep apnea. But nighttime sleep problems have been directly linked to many other serious health problems as well, such as:

    • Heart attack
    • Hight Blood Pressure
    • Heart Failure
    • Ischemic Heart Disease
    • Stroke
    • Diabetes
    • Obesity
    • Learning and memory problems
    • Sexual dysfunction
    • Depression
    • GERD
    • Cardiac arrhythmia (irregular pulse)

It makes sense to see a specialist right away if you suspect that you may have snoring problems. TMJ and Sleep Therapy Centre of New England, and our NIGHTLASE treatment, may be the perfect solution for you.

    Is NIGHTLASE treatment painful?

As our friends at the Breathing and Sleep Center explain, “some patients have reported having a dry throat and mouth after their treatments.  Soreness and/or restrictions have not been reported, and patients can eat and drink immediately following the appointments.  Staying hydrated can be helpful before and after the treatment to reduce dryness.”

What else should I know about NIGHTLASE Treatment?

Treating snoring and sleep apnea in New England or elsewhere, requires a team approach. Dentists are the perfect practitioner to recognize oral symptoms and signs common to sleep apnea sufferers. Dentists — by the limits of licensure — cannot make a diagnosis of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). For that you need to visit a physician.

It’s also important to keep in mind, as the Breathing and Sleep Center explains, NIGHTLASE may eliminate snoring, but sleep apnea may continue. “Snoring is actually one of the most common symptoms experienced by people who have sleep apnea, but it’s also possible for people bothered by sleep apnea to not snore at all.

This means it’s entirely possible that if you don’t have a thorough examination before treatment, that your snoring problem might be eliminated, but that you could still have sleep apnea which remains undiagnosed. The truth is, that most people who persistently snore are probably also afflicted with sleep apnea, so it’s important to have a full diagnosis before proceeding with Nightlase treatment.”

But the best way to find out for certain if NIGHTLASE is right for you is to schedule an appointment with Dr. David today!

Beautiful experience. My third child, was my first with ties. Dr. Kaplan took his time showing me images of my sons ties and explaining them to me so I understood them more. He also made the atmosphere very comfortable! We had all 3 ties released (tongue, lip, and cheek) done in about 10 minutes. Dr. Kaplan checked in with me about 5 minutes after the procedure and explained everything to me about follow up appointments with lactation and chiro and how to massage my babies mouth post-op. Highly recommend for infant tie issues!

Dr. David is by far one of the most compassionate dentists I have ever met. Dr. David and her team have a thirst for knowledge and are constantly furthering their education. I would highly recommend the TMJ & Sleep Centre of New England if you have any TMJ/Sleep needs.

I have only been for initial exam and consultation, so this review is for that. I love the office. They have great technology and a nice ambiance if you can believe it. Pretty rare to find a dentist with nice views but I had beautiful trees to look at outside the window while I sat in the chair. The tech and dentist were so caring and really listened to me and took their time to make me feel at ease. I have had some less than savory and even traumatic experiences at other dentists , I can say that I feel very comfortable and trusting with Dr David. I think she is a brilliant doctor who really cares about people and looks at the whole picture , not just your teeth. I’m happy I found her and ready to start my treatment plan. This is by far not the cheapest dentist but I only have one set of teeth, so trusting myself to the best.
